About Me:
My name is Albany and I am a Marriage and Family Therapy intern under the supervision of Megan Garza, MA, LMFT in the process of completing my master’s at National University. My goal is to always provide a safe and enriching environment for individuals, couples, and families. I have been able to practice creating this space throughout my education and professional experiences. I have gained meaningful experience as a Registered Behavior Technician working with children with autism and other mental health challenges, working in tandem with their families’ goals and priorities. This has provided me with practical experience and skills in meeting families where they are at to effectuate positive change in their lives. In addition, I volunteered as a guardian ad litem for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). In this capacity, I worked via interdisciplinary means with the state and other professionals to create case plans that provided systemic support and resources for underserved and never served families involved in child protective cases. This allowed me valuable insight into the systems that affect individuals and families and a holistic approach to creating opportunities for growth. I am eager to continue to work with diverse populations in achieving their goals by providing a collaborative and safe environment.

Treatment Philosophy
There are many factors that influence an individual. This includes relationships, culture, and the systems around us that shape our lives. Because of this, it is crucial to view every individual through a holistic systems-based lens, especially when working with them in therapy. I will always work to understand the influences that shape each client's lived experience so that we may better work towards a client's goals in a way that respects and incorporates their values and cultural beliefs. In practice, this translates to working alongside clients to identify patterns, strengths, and areas for growth.
Utilizing systems theory, I also strive to discover helpful resources that can be implemented outside of therapy so clients can continue to work towards their goals. Developing a network of institutional and community support is key to creating a climate that is conducive to personal development. Since there are many aspects of our lives that can shape our stories, utilizing narrative therapy is another approach that I will incorporate.
Exploring the story of every individual, family, or couple will aid me in better understanding their preferred identity. Doing so can uncover their strengths, values, and alternative narratives that can support the positive changes they aim to create in their
stories. While using these methods, I will always strive to create a safe and empowering environment for all of my clients. This way, they have the opportunity to share their experiences openly and be supported as we work towards growth together.
