About Me
Life is difficult and while having friends and family to talk to is great, sometimes that is not enough. The therapeutic relationship is one of healing and hope. Facilitating that relationship is very important to me because I understand the value of working with someone who is not pushing their, usually, well-intentioned agenda onto your situation. Someone outside our problems who has no investment in how we handle those problems can offer limitless perspective and an abundance of compassion.
In addition to being a listening ear, therapists have so many resources and tools to help us as we navigate whatever challenges and changes life throws at us. This is the type of therapist I strive to be. Whether I am seeing individuals, couples, or families I am here to connect with you in a way that will empower you to live your life to the fullest.
I have a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Capella University. I am certified in Prepare and Enrich Premarital/Relational Counseling. I have four years of experience working in a treatment setting involving a multitude of mental health issues including: couple/relational/marital/non-traditional relationships & Family system related concerns, LGBTQIA stress, anxiety, depression, sexual concerns, kinky/poly concerns, trauma, and religious trauma. I look forward to applying my experience and my education to my practice as a therapist.
McKayla is working on her license as a Marriage and Family Therapist and is supervised by Megan Garza, LMFT. She is available for telehealth services to see individuals, couples, children, and family for reduced rates for those needing lower fee services as well as occasional in-person morning Saturday appointments for kids and families.

Treatment Philosophy
I have a systemic approach to therapy, meaning that I consider not just the individual but the systems they are a part of and how those systems may impact their well-being. This approach means not pathologizing behavior but rather seeking to understand the purpose of the behavior. Using Emotionally Focused Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and other methods to understand these behaviors helps us replace maladaptive thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors with adaptive ones, with the goal being to live a healthy and happy life.
I strive for a shame-free environment where my clients are free to express themselves authentically and share who they are without fear of judgment or disappointment. My treatment philosophy is geared towards compassionately offering support, resources, and perspective, as you work through the things you feel are holding you back. My role as a therapist is not to be an absolute authority with a cookie-cutter prescription but more of a coach and teacher working alongside you.
